1 » The Dallas Mavericks, unlikely to land Carmelo Anthony or LeBron James in free agency, have set their sights on Houston Rockets restricted free agent Chandler Parsons. ESPN.com’s Chris Broussard and Yahoo! Sports insider Adrian Wojnarowski both reported Monday that Parsons is very much on the open market considering a number of options but that Dallas is the most likely team other than Houston to make a major play for the small forward. Parsons is coming off a career-best year in which he averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists. The Rockets did not pick up his team option as the franchise was hoping to pursue a big-name free agent before potentially bringing him back into the fold. Houston hopes that some of the other major stars will make their decisions before July 10, which is when Dallas will likely make Parsons a serious offer; the Rockets would then have just three days to match the Mavericks’ term sheet.

2 » Seattle Mariners catcher Mike Zunino’s power stroke has not subsided. After clubbing four home runs in a five-game span in mid-June, Zunino jacked his American League-leading (for a plate minder) 13th bomb of the year on Monday [Watch]. He remains third in homers among MLB catchers, trailing Atlanta’s Evan Gattis (16) by three and Cincinnati’s Devin Mesoraco (15) by two. Seattle is 49-40, seven games back of first place in the West but tied for the lead in the AL Wild Card chase.

3 » Center Vernon Macklin continues to play for the Orlando Magic in NBA Summer League games in Orlando, Florida. On Monday, in his second game with the team, he played 14:37 off the bench and went 2-for-5 from the field (and 2-for-2 from the line) with six points and six rebounds. Macklin and point guard Scottie Wilbekin, who is currently playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, will go head-to-head Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. The contest can be viewed live nationally on NBA TV.

4 » Back in April after the conclusion of spring practice, Gators sophomore wide receiver Ahmad Fulwood sat down with Campus Insiders to convey his thoughts about Florida’s new offense under coordinator Kurt Roper.
